A Perfect Baseball GameOn
Monday, May 5th, our varsity baseball team defeated Cardinal Hayes
6- 0 behind a perfect game thrown by sophomore Liam Josephson.
That's right - a perfect game. 21 Hayes hitters came to bat, but
none of them ever reached first base.
Liam was supported by
his catcher Jesus Jaile who called a great game and had two hits.
Sophomore Michael Maschi had a big two run double and Junior TJ
Mangan added a home run to spark the offense.
Congratulations
to Liam, Jesus and the entire team.
We
are still researching the archives but believe this may well be the
first perfect game at Fordham Prep since its founding in 1841. It is
an extraordinary rarity at any level of baseball.
We
have 4 no hitters recorded in Fordham Prep
May 27, 1922 -
Fordham Prep 2 Xavier 0
The pitcher was Joe
Harrington
May 25, 1943 - Fordham Prep 15 Manhattan
0
The pitcher was Joe Daly `45
April 24, 1945 Jim
Daly `47 pitched a no hitter against St. Ann's.
May 4, 1948 -

Murphy Field Scoreboard Dedicated

As many of you probably have noticed by now,
Murphy Field has a new electronic state of the art scoreboard.
It was a joint effort spear-headed by the Friends of Joe Allen
`80 and enthusiastically supported by both Fordham University
and Fordham Prep. It took close to one year from dream to
reality. Fordham Prep sports from football to soccer to
lacrosse will all benefit from this new addition.
The scoreboard was formally dedicated on Saturday, March 1,
2008 starting with a Mass in the Univeristy Church officiated
by Fr. Boller. Under beautiful blue skies, Fr. Boller lead the
group up to Murphy Field where the scoreboard was blessed and
dedicated to the memory of Joe Allen `80 and to all the student
athletes who will compete on the field for years to come. The
afternoon culminated in an afternoon reception in the Hall of
Honor.
Joe's sister, Jennifer D'Auria thanked
all in attendance and both Fordham University and Fordham Prep for
helping her brother's spirit and name live on. "September 11th
happened over 6 years ago, to know that Joe has not been forgotten
and will be remembered for years to come means so much to me and my
family."

Class of 1984 Gearing Up for 2009Not wanting to wait until their 25 year reunion in 2009,
a group of eight alumni from the class of 1984 gathered at the
Sunset Grille in White Plains, NY on April 10th to reconnect,
reminisce and trade stories on what they've been doing the last 24
years. In attendance were John Balsamo, Chris DiMarco, Joe
Rella, Mark Varrichio, Ernie Marrone, Ralph Ruggiero, Mike
Burger and recently retired newlywed Dan Waldron. It could
have been more as a couple of others could not make it or never
responded to the invitation. The night was a success and the
group plans on reconvening in the Summer or early Fall, and plan on
making it an annual or semi-annual event. All agreed that more
of their fellow classmates need to come, so if you are interested
feel free to reach out to Larry Curran who will pass on the
information to the appropriate people Continued...
